We
offer Potassium Iodate, which is used as an oxidizing agent and is approved
by the World Health Organization, for radiation protection. It has the
property to replace radioactive iodine from the thyroid. The compound is
prepared by reacting a potassium-containing base such as potassium hydroxide
with iodic acid. Potassium iodate is used for iodination of table salt, as
iodide can be oxidized by molecular oxygen to iodine under wet conditions.
It is also occasionally used as a maturing agent in baking.
